Forever Home Dreams Come True at ABC Adoption Event

Tenielle & Bentley
Eleven homeless Bassets found their forever homes and families at ABC's Adoption Event on August 12 at Camp Bow Wow, Rochester, NY.  Many were Southern rescues transported to NY by wonderful ABC road warriors.  It is heart warming to read the many Southern foster home comments on FaceBook following their fosters progress as they journeyed North and were adopted.  These loving Basset folk provided warm, safe havens for these homeless hounds while they searched for their forever families.

Following is the hit parade of adopted Bassets with more adoptions to come.  Currently there are about a dozen wonderful hounds still available for adoption.  Check them out on the Available Bassets tab of the ABC website.  If your family is searching for the perfect addition to bring joy and love to your home fill out an ABC Adoption Application.

Seymour
Sweet Seymour and his new family!
Congratulations to sweet Seymour and his new family of humans and two Basset siblings!  Two year old Seymour was one of the TX 6 that arrived on the June 16 transport from a neglectful backyard breeder in TX.  He was malnourished and in rough shape but has flourished in his loving foster home.  Thanks to his new family for having room in their hearts and home for one more Basset - you can never have too many!  We wish you many happy, joyful years with sweet Seymour!

Handsome Roane and his handsome forever Dad!

Five year old Roane was sprung from a TN kill shelter in the nick of time by Southern rescue. Thank goodness they found him and pulled him. He is such a sweet boy in the prime of life and his foster Mom just fell in love with him. Congratulations to Roane and his new family - we wish you many joyful years with this sweet boy!

Flash and his new forever family!

It's just so wonderful to see Flash adopted into a loving family - we fell in love with him on his transport and wanted to bring him home!  He is a wonderful personality and very smart.  We are so glad to hear he is no longer homeless.  Many thanks to ABC for taking him in and to his wonderful foster family.

Congratulations to Flash and his new family - we wish you many happy years with this devoted, handsome boy.

Vixen is a four year old beautiful girl who was originally a Las Vegas rescue! Somehow she found her way into Southern Rescue and travelled all the way North with ABC to find Sean, her new forever Dad and a new sibling! Congratulations to Vixen and Sean - we wish you many wonderful times ahead!

Vixen and her Dad and pal!
Beautiful Cleo and her new forever family!
Cleo and her brother Coy are beautiful four year olds that were turned into a shelter.  Carolinas Basset Rescue sprung them and sent them North to ABC.  Congratulations to Cleo and her new family - enjoy this beautiful Basset girl!

Bentley and his new family - picture perfect!
Bentley is a wonderful, fun loving 9 month old Bassador - hard to believe someone would try to dump such a sweet boy.  Congratulations to Bentley, his new Mom and Dad, youngsters and sibling!  Looks like a match made in heaven!

Puppy Power Gump and his new folks!
Gump is a sweet eight month old puppy who was fostered by the wonderful Morrisons.  They said he is a typical puppy who loves to strew laundry around the yard and loves to shred paper but most of all he loves hugs.  Congratulations to Gump and his new family - we wish you loads of joy with this handsome, sweet boy!

Congratulations to Maggie and her new family!
Maggie is a beautiful six year old who came in to ABC as an owner relinquish.  Congratulations to Maggie and her new family - another match made in heaven by ABC!  We wish you many happy years together.

Beautiful Maggie

Cherry and her new forever Dad!
Cherry and Wynne are five year old puppy mill rescues.  Cherry is affectionate and sweet and beautiful.  It takes some very special homes to take in puppy mill dogs as they are usually very timid and unfamiliar with family life.  It takes a ton of patience and perseverance to socialize them to living with humans.  ABC's wonderful foster families have worked with these two sisters for a long time and they have blossomed into beautiful companion dogs.  Congratulations to Cherry and her new family - we wish you many years of joyful affection together!
Congratulations to Flannery and her wonderful new Family!

Flannery Adopted!
Beautiful seven year old Flannery was found as a stray in TN and travelled all the way to ABC to find her forever home.  Congratulations to Flannery and her new family - we wish you many healthy and happy years with this beautiful girl!

Maximilian The Great and his ABC Parents - Bev & Paul!
Max is a two year old Basset-Beagle mix who was rescued one day before his 'to be destroyed' date! Hard to believe someone could euthanize such a happy, healthy pup!  Many thanks to the TN rescue that pulled him and to ABC for bringing him North to the perfect forever home.  Bev and Paul are ABC rescuers extraordinaire who recently lost their beloved rescue Brutus to cancer.  Although heartbroken they felt that Brutus would want them to share their loving home with a homeless hound so they brought Max home - forever.  Bev posted on FB - ''Don't hold the love that you have within yourself.  Give it to another like me and then I will live forever.  For love never really dies." - A Dog.  Congratulations to Bev, Paul and Bella on their new addition and we wish you many, happy, healthy, joyful years with your new 'addition'.  Keep us posted on Max' progress and with pictures of the handsome boy and we'll continue his story on the blog.

Congratulations to Max on finding the perfect forever home!
Keep us posted with pictures and stories of your adopted hounds!  Send pictures and stories to bellaroo@optonline.net!

ABC Transport Van heads North!

First 9 Basset Hounds loaded up in TN
Van #1 is loaded up tonight with nine wonderful, homeless Basset Hounds headed North for ABC's Adoption Event on Sunday.  Thanks so much to the wonderful road warriors completing this awesome journey and thanks to all of the southern rescue volunteers who got these guys ready to meet the transport!  It is truly an amazing work of love!

Beautiful Flannery

Among them is Flannery - a seven year old female diva who sounds just perfect to fill your home with love and devotion.  Flannery was found as a stray in TN but has done very well in her foster home.  She is well mannered and housebroken.  She is good with other dogs and kids and is very playful.  She bonded with her foster Dad immediately and loved to follow him everywhere.  If you are looking for the perfect, mature Basset to be lady of your home Flannery sounds like the perfect fit.

Don't forget if you are considering adoption fill out ABC Adoption Application.

Meet Carson

Carson is estimated to be approximately 13-15 years old. He was found on a hot summer day underneath a boat trying to stay cool. He was dehydrated and underweight. He was taken to a local Humane Society and never claimed. The Humane Society asked if ABC would help. The answer was "of course."

Watch a video of Carson from the Humane Society.
Consider becoming a Virtual Foster Home for Carson.

Hound Hauler #2 following #1 this morning. Today 4 wonderful ABC volunteers are making the 12hr drive down to TN to meet-up with 14 hounds from Arkansas, NC, SC, & TN!  This is the first time both ABC vans have gone together on a trip - safe travels everyone!

Thank You

New Southern Basset Hounds Travel to NY

This is Jeb who arrived last week in NY and is searching for his forever family!
ABC will be holding an Adoption Event this Sunday, August 12 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Camp Bow Wow, Henrietta, NY. Camp Bow Wow is located at 85 Mushroom Blvd., Rochester, NY.   Here are a few of the wonderful Basset Hounds travelling from Southern states this week to attend the event.  If you've been thinking about adding a canine companion to your family you can't go wrong with one of these great hounds.  "The Basset is often considered a clown with his baleful Emmett Kelly countenance...he is actually quite agile and intelligent and has a reputation as a steadfast family friend. A gentle dog, he is well-suited to families with children and usually gets along well with other dogs." (Online Dog Owner's Guide).

As Shakespeare commented in 'Midsummer Night's Dream':

"My hounds are bred out of the Spartan kind,
So flew'd, so sanded, and their heads are hung
With ears that sweep away the morning dew;
Crook-knee'd, and dew-lapp'd like Thessalian bulls;
Slow in pursuit, but match'd in mouth like bells;
Each under each."

6 yr old Bruno
Want a hound whose ears don't drag the ground? Well Bruno is your man! I may be a little short in the ear department, but I'm all basset everywhere else. I love to play with toys and will entertain myself for hours throwing something around and catching it. I'm happy to sit next to you on the sofa and get lots of belly rubs, the more the better! I get along well with dogs and cats. I love to play with kids, but I do better with older kids since I just don't understand why I can't take the food away from the little ones who carry it and just seem to leave it everywhere. I am not a fan of having my ears cleaned and will let you know with quite the bark, but I assure you I am all bark & no bite! If you want a happy guy who has his house manners down pat and can go with the flow, ask for me -- Bruno!

4 yr old Vixen
Vixen is a beautiful, healthy girl. She can get anxious with other dogs/cats while leashed or at home (protective of home and family); however, does fine in new environments with strangers (e.g. day care with other dogs, boarding, grooming). She is excellent with kids and was great with her previous owners' baby boy - she was always calm around him. She knows her name and follows basic commands (sit, down, come). She is potty-trained. She has been crated at night and while the owners were away. She had a personal trainer when first adopted by her former owners.  They thought she probably had some socialization issues prior to adoption, given her anxious behavior with other animals. She has come a long way and is looking for that perfect family to love and continue her socialization in her new forever home!

2 yr old Seymour
Weighing in at less than 30 lbs, 2 year-old Seymour (a.k.a. “Little One”) is a small basset hound with a HUGE heart. He is part of the Texas 6 that arrived in New York on June 16th, 2012 after being rescued from a neglectful breeder. Malnourished and in need of some TLC, Seymour has settled-into his foster home where he is finally receiving the love and care he deserves.

Seymour is a sweet little guy, who loves attention. He is playful and enjoys wrestling with the other dogs in his foster home. He tries to play with the cats too, but they’re usually too grumpy to play. Seymour is crate-trained, and almost house-broken.   He gets stiff when he has been sitting a while, and his elbow gives him grief, but otherwise he is a healthy and happy boy who would make a wonderful addition to any family!

7-8 yr old Stella Sue
Otherwise known as Sweet Stella Sue, this lady is fine around other dogs and people. I don't mind my crate. I like to stroll around the backyard and remind people once in a while that I have a beautiful basset voice. If I have a bone or chewie I tend to want to keep it all to myself so best not to leave these things lying around the house freely. There were no kids at my foster home but I am sure I would like them. I recently had my teeth cleaned and now have a beautiful smile.  I am a little stiff in my back knee and sometimes when I run it might end in a little limp which is why I take Meloxicam daily which helps tremendously - my foster Mom is sending me with two months worth for my trip up to NY. If you are looking for a dog that isn't super needy, but just likes to hang around her home and humans, Sweet Stella Sue is for you!

8 1/2 yr old Priscilla
Meet Priscilla! Ears! Glorious, long, velvety ears - that's what I've got! I'm a classic basset - about 45lbs, big paws, low-to-the ground, and of course I've already mentioned my ears! The tip of my tongue sneaks out sometimes while I am sleeping - my foster Mom thinks it's adorable! I have also perfected the art of rolling over for belly rubs - I'm kind of ticklish, and I wiggle with delight when you rub my big basset belly!  I am housebroken, and have wonderful manners. Even though my back and hips are a little stiff from arthritis, I can manage a couple of steps to get in and out of the house. I also shake a little bit at times which is from an old nerve injury - this makes some people a little nervous at first until they learn it is normal for me. I am very sweet with people and kids. I also get along fine with other dogs, including at dinner time, and I've lived with a cat before as well. Look into my big, brown eyes, and you'll find a sweet, gentle soul searching for a forever family to love - are you that family?

Bentley the Bassador, so handsome!
The best of both worlds, Bentley is part Labrador Retriever and Basset Hound.  He will be arriving in NY this week and will be searching for that forever family who can't choose between these two great breeds!

Thanks are due to all of the wonderful Southern rescues and volunteers working so hard to transport these wonderful guys to NY in time for the August 12 Adoption Event.  If you are thinking of adding one of these delightful companion hounds to your family don't forget to fill out an adoption application prior to the event at ABC Basset Hound Rescue of NY.

Find Your New Best Friend at ABC's Adoption Event

Wynne
Cherry
ABC will be holding an Adoption Event on Sunday, August 12 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Camp Bow Wow, Henrietta, NY.  Camp Bow Wow is located at 85 Mushroom Blvd., Rochester, NY.  Find the loves of your life and adopt one (or two) of ABC's wonderful Basset Hounds.  There is no home too small for a Basset, the only place they take up a lot of room is in your heart.  Wynne and Cherry will be there - a wonderful bonded pair of sisters who will bring love and joy to any home.  View the list of available Bassets at ABC's web page NY Basset.org.

Camp Bow Wow's newsletter has an excellent write-up on the coming event at Camp Bow Wow to Foster Basset Hounds.  Kudos to Camp Bow Wow's staff for volunteering their time to introduce these hounds to their new forever families!

In addition to the Bassets listed on the available section of the website, ABC has teamed up with some of our Southern rescue friends to transport homeless Bassets North to find forever homes.  Right now volunteers are needed to help transport several dogs from Raleigh, NC to Maryville, TN this weekend. Carolina Basset Rescue is trying to move some of the dogs coming up for the event to temporary kenneling in TN until the ABC transport arrives to drive them to the August 12th event.  A volunteer has stepped up to kennel them for free so they will be ready for their travel North to new lives.  If you can help transport these wonderful guys to TN please contact Carolina Basset Rescue ava.whalen@hotmail.com or contact ABC's intake coordinator Sommer Slavin at SommerSlavin@hotmail.com.

If you think you see the next love of your life here or on our website please be sure to fill out an adoption application prior to the event at www.nybasset.org!
